Oregon 2004 Nov Diane's visit

Oregon News

Dad opened the front door.  Walked outside.  Came in and reported that my car was fine and all was well the morning after Halloween.  In the 1930s ‘trick or treat’ was more about tricks then treats.  The ‘normal’ tricks consisted of dumping over garbage cans, letting air out of car tires and removing fence gates and putting them on top of garages!  I’m grateful Halloween traditions have evolved!

Staying with Mom & Dad 24/7:

10-13-04

From the living room to the bedroom Mom was shuffling along. I started singing “Bewitched, bothered, and bewildered” to her because she said something that reminded me of one of her old favorite songs. She laughed and said, “You never could carry a tune.” I acted insulted. She said it was the truth. I said some truths don’t need to be told and asked her to sing to me as I danced in front of her. She sang, “When the old wedding band was new….”.

Oregon News
June 7, 2004

I couldn’t sleep in anticipation of my trip to Oregon and beyond. So I did my shoulder exercises at 2AM, ate some cantaloupe, finished packing and was on the road at 3 AM. It was grand watching the sun come up around Sutter Buttes area. I had a restful one-hour nap at a California rest stop.

Oregon News
Hello to all,

My hats off to the Oregon crowd and dad for the wonderful care of mom that you are doing..... WOW what a task...... Her mind is definitely slipping and very hard to get around. Her leg doesn’t want to work...... I was glad to see upon arrival that mom has finally realized how good dad is to her.... Mentioned it quite a few times during my visit. There doesn’t seem to be as much knit picking towards dad from mom as previous visits.... Mom says dad is kind, gentle, and good to me...

Notes from Thanksgiving 2003 visit with Mom & Dad in Oregon

Thanksgiving dinner at Heather & Scott’s – the torch has been passed to a great generation.

Friday – 4:30 am – alarm went off. Shopping day after Thanksgiving. Crazy? Yep – I did it anyway ….at Fred Meyers, Staples, Gottschalks, JC Penny’s, & Rite Aid. The stores were getting too crowded around 8:30 am so I stopped and went home to nap.

How was your visit? How was mom and dad's health?

Hi Mary, Carol & Tom,

Info on my visit to Oregon last week......

Overall conclusion -- Mom is better than she was a few weeks ago but she has definitely slowed down to another level. When I left, I felt very positive that I would see her again in the future. Her appreciation of Dad was very good to see & hear.
